About M & T Meats

At M&T Meats, we pride ourselves on excellent meat and superior customer service. Nothing pleases us more than seeing new faces in our store – except of course seeing old friends! Quality, freshness, passion, kindness, and a small town feel where everyone is welcome are all part of the “M&T philosophy” we live by in hopes that our customers will bring their friends along with them next time.

When you visit our store, you may notice that sanitation is a top priority at our facility. We are a USDA inspected plant that complies and exceeds all HACCP regulations. My employees say I am obsessive compulsive about sanitation. I take that as a compliment.

As you approach our showcases, you’ll be greeted by a personal butcher who will answer any questions you may have as you make your selections. Your butcher will work through the showcases with you from start to finish being sure you get exactly what you want. (If you don’t see what you are looking for in the showcase, our butchers will gladly cut to your specifications.) Every choice can be marinated in our special house marinade, hand-rubbed in our secret dry rub or both, and to guarantee freshness, you can have each one of your selections vacuum packed in the quantities you choose.

We work hard to keep our family business running. We’ve learned over the years that if we treat our customer’s right, they’ll be loyal to us. For this reason, we won’t put anything in our store that we won’t eat at our table. Freshness is controlled from start to finish as everything is done in house. We track all of the animals from birth to be sure we have wholesome, superior cuts over the average supermarket brands.

We’re so glad you’re here! Please take a minute to look around our website. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to place an order by phone. We welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family and hope to see you soon.

Yours very truly,

Phil Mathis

Our History

In 1963, Alvin Mathis Jr. and Fred Thompson started a modest meat business which required only 2 hogs per week to sell their fresh, high-quality sausage to local friends and family. In 1992, Phil and Tammy Mathis (husband and wife team) purchased the growing family business and currently process over 20,000 lbs of hogs per week.

Phil and Tammy have made several changes to the business to keep up with rising demands for their products. In 1993, they added an abattoir and started slaughtering twice a week to improve product freshness. One year later, a hog farm was set up and Berkshires were introduced into their herd to give M & T’s pork a superior taste to supermarket brands. Phil controls how each animal is raised and ensures a humane slaughter process. This means that M & T Meats has complete quality control over the products they offer.

Quality has always been the top priority at M & T Meats. We started in the sausage business and it is still a huge part of our business today. In 1994, Phil removed MSG from the family sausage recipe because it was the right thing to do. M & T only offers Certified Angus Beef and it is all high choice or prime cuts. “We may apologize for price but never quality.”

In 1995, M & T started shipping meats as several customers wanted to share the products with their friends and family outside of Middle Georgia. Customers have spread the word and now M&T ships year round anywhere in the United States. We are excited to launch our ecommerce site in 2011!

One taste and you’ll understand the difference three generations of experience can make. Fresh from our farm … to your table.

“We strive to make every customer feel like family, and we are honored to have them patronize our store.” – Phil Mathis
